Alabama Officer Wounded in Shooting Recovering from Injuries

The Auburn (AL) Police Department identified the officer—wounded in a gunfight that left two suspects dead on Friday—as 30-year-old Justin Sanders.

The department said that Sanders—a five-year veteran of the agency—was in stable condition Saturday and recovering from his injuries at a medical center in Birmingham.

According to WSFA-TV , Sanders had stopped a vehicle that fit the description of one driven by a suspected armed robbery suspect. A gunfight ensued, with Sanders being struck several times.

Auburn police say the suspect who shot Sanders—identified as Christopher James Wallace—died along with an unidentified woman in an apartment fire during a standoff with law enforcement.
