SEARCHSunday morning a Montgomery, Ala., police officer was shot and wounded while trying to apprehend a suspect in a Walmart theft. Officers are now searching for the suspect, said to be extremely dangerous, who fled from the scene after car-jacking a vehicle.

Sunday morning a Montgomery, Ala., police officer was shot and wounded while trying to apprehend a suspect in a Walmart theft.
Around 8:30 a.m. Officer Robert Hubbard responded to a report of theft at the Walmart on Eastern Boulevard. When the officer approached the suspect in the store, the man produced a weapon and fired, striking the officer, authorities said. The suspect fled to the parking lot where he reportedly stole a Chrysler and drove from the scene.
The wounded officer was transported to a hospital for treatment and is listed in serious-stable condition after surgery. He was shot in the neck and arm.
The stolen vehicle of the suspect was spotted late Sunday afternoon in northeastern Louisiana, according to Earnhardt. A vehicle pursuit followed by Ferriday Louisiana police and Louisiana State Police.
Wright exited the vehicle and led police on a foot pursuit around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.
Scott Moreau with the Louisiana State Police told AL.com Wright was shot in the abdomen during the pursuit and taken into custody. He is reportedly in good condition and would soon be released from the hospital.
