Alabama Officer Killed in Accident Driving Home from Shift

A Mount Vernon, AL, police officer was killed Monday night in a traffic accident in Summerdale.
Officer Ivan Lopez was reportedly driving home from his shift in his police vehicle just after 7 p.m. when he was struck and killed in a collision with a pickup truck, according to AL.com.
Chief Kevin Brock of the Summerdale Police Department told news reporters at the scene that the truck sped through a stop sign and hit his vehicle.
The occupants of the pickup truck were taken to the hospital and their condition was not released, Fox 10 reports.
Chief Brock said Lopez’s death would be treated as on duty.
