5-Year-Old Daughter of Detroit First Responders Dies of COVID-19

Most of the mourners watched the service online. Only immediate family, including her mother LaVondria Herbert and father Ebbie Herbert, were in attendance.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer paid tribute to the family last week. “They’ve been on the frontline and they’ve served with honor and integrity,” Whitmer said. “They did not deserve to lose their child to this virus. Nobody does.”

Skylar Herbert was five years old. Her mother is a 25-year veteran of the Detroit Police Department. Her father has served 18 years with the Detroit Fire Department. And she died on April 19 from complications of COVID-19.

Skylar's funeral was held Thursday in West Bloomfield, MI, the Associated Press reports.
