Chief Brokenrope, 50, had been hospitalized since about 5 p.m. Thursday, after his motorcycle crashed in the median as he attempted to stop his bike to avoid slower traffic.
Brokenrope had served as chief with the agency since 2006, reports the
Journal Star
. He earned his law enforcement certification in 1989.
On Saturday, Moorestown (N.J.) Police Officer Craig Berner died after his motorcycle overturned after 10 p.m. Saturday. Berner, 52, had served with the agency for more than 20 years.
During the accident, Berner was thrown from his bike into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, reports the
