2 NYPD Officers Wounded in Gun Grab Shooting

Two NYPD officers were shot and wounded Tuesday in Brooklyn while responding to a domestic call on Tuesday afternoon.

Three NYPD officers and a police sergeant responded to a domestic call from a woman who reported being assaulted by her son inside an apartment in Crown Heights.

Officers quickly identified the suspect, 39-year-old Melvin Butler, who had physically assaulted his mother, causing a head injury, ABC7  reports. When officers attempted to arrest him, Butler resisted, reportedly grabbed one of the officer’s guns, and opened fire.

One officer was shot in the left hand, and another was shot in the left thigh. They were rushed to Kings County Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Butler was shot multiple times by an officer who returned fire, and is in critical but stable condition.
