2 Chicago Officers Shot While Getting Food, Suspect in Custody

Two Chicago police officers were wounded in a shooting while picking up food on the West Side Friday morning and one suspect is in custody, police said.

Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown said the officers had stopped to get something to eat at a food stand at about 3:30 a.m.

Superintendent Brown said one officer was in line while the suspect was in line ahead of him and when the suspect reached in his pocket to pay, a gun fell out of his waistband. Brown said the officer noticed the gun and the suspect then picked it up and fired at the officer, ABC7 reports.

The suspect then ran outside and fired at the officer's partner, who was inside of a squad car parked outside the food stand, Brown said.

One officer suffered a graze wound to the head. One was hit in the leg.

At a late press conference, Brown said one officer was released from the hospital and the other would be there for a few days.
