Twelve law enforcement agencies in southeast Michigan will be the first in the state to have portable fingerprint scanners to identify suspects, the Detroit Free Press reports.

In response, the American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan has said it expects court challenges. A state law bans fingerprinting on arrests where the sentence would be less than 90 days, according to the report.
