A second suspect has been arrested in Texas in connection with the ambush killing of a Houston-area sheriff’s deputy last week.
Dremone Francis, 26, was charged with capital murder in the death of Harris County Deputy Fernando Esqueda and has been booked in the Harris County Jail, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote on social media.
Esqueda, 28, was shot and killed Wednesday night in the line of duty while pursuing a man accused of pistol whipping an employee at a Little Caesars restaurant in Houston.
Francis' arrest comes after Ronald "Ronnie" Palmer Jr., 44, was arrested and charged Thursday with capital murder, Fox News reports.
A witness told police it sounded like there were two different guns, prosecutors said in probable cause court. Investigators discovered 41 shell casings at the scene from two different types of guns, KHOU reports.
Francis has also been charged with tampering with evidence.
"Defendant also admitted that immediately after the murder of deputy Esqueda, codefendant Palmer gave him a pistol and a mini Draco firearm and told him to get rid of them," prosecutors said. "A witness stated the defendant dropped off a pistol and a Draco in a black trash bag and told them the guns were hot."
