The Texas Department of Public Safety says. Sgt. Stephen Gibson was traveling north on SH 144 when a white Ford F-150 pickup truck lost control traveling southbound and hit Sgt. Gibson's investigator truck, WFAA reports.
Sgt. Gibson was killed in the crash, according to Texas DPS. He served as a Somervell County Sheriff’s deputy for 26 years.
"Sgt. Gibson's unwavering commitment to serving and protecting the community and distinguished career will be forever remembered. During this difficult time, the family, and this office request privacy as we grieve the loss of this dedicated public servant," the department said in a statement on Facebook.
Sgt. Gibson is survived by his wife, two children, and grandchildren, ODMP.org reports.
