The suspect came out of the room and walked down a staircase, yelling at officers before walking away. According to police, officers deployed a K-9 to help arrest him; however, when they did this, the man pulled out a gun.

New Jersey Officer Killed in Shootout, 14-Year-Old Charged with Murder

Detective Joseph Azcona was shot and mortally wounded before he had a chance to get out of his vehicle, officials said. He died at a local hospital.

Responding officers arrived around 8:30 p.m. and immediately came under fire outside of the subject’s apartment building. One officer was hit and transported to the hospital by a fellow officer.
