St. Paul, MN, police commander Axel Henry has been named the city’s next police chief.
Henry has been a St. Paul police officer for 24 years, rising through the ranks. Mayor Melvin Carter announced Tuesday that Henry is his pick to become the city’s next police chief, TwinCities.com reports.
“Cmdr. Henry’s rich patrol and command experience, his lifetime of service to St. Paul, and his forward-thinking approach to safety have earned him broad support from our officers and residents alike,” Carter said. “He is the perfect candidate to lead our nationally renowned police department.”
With strong finalists, Carter said his choice was difficult, but he said some of the deciding factors were Henry’s connections to St. Paul, his long service to the city, his command and budgeting experience in the police department, his focus on data and “his forward thinking approach to public safety.”
