The man ran into traffic near Brookhurst Street, hitting other vehicles and disabling his own car, Schmidt said. The suspect then exited his vehicle, armed with a handgun, Schmidt said. Taking cover behind other cars, the suspect exchanged gunfire with at least two officers and was shot, Schmidt said.
