Scott Smith is a disabled veteran who served as an active-duty Army MP and in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard as a security policeman. Today he serves as a federal police officer for the Department of Veterans' Affairs. He is a contributing editor to POLICE.

If you were able to track down the straight version, man you were on the cutting edge of light technology. It wasn’t long after I arrived back home to my unit that we got really high tech with the arrival of the Mag Lite. This was like introducing the centerfire cartridge to an infantryman.
