OK Cop Hit by Shrapnel During Officer-Involved Shooting

“When the officers went inside to search, the suspect was inside. He was hiding at the time. He opened fire on the officers while they were inside,” explains Capt. Valerie Littlejohn

An Oklahoma City, OK, police officer was wounded by shrapnel during an officer-involved shooting Tuesday that killed a man wanted on an out-of-state burglary warrant.

Capt. Valerie Littlejohn says the injured officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The officer was taken to OU Medical Center.

Officers served the warrant at a travel trailer around 11 a.m., reports FOX 25.

“When the officers went inside to search, the suspect was inside. He was hiding at the time. He opened fire on the officers while they were inside,” explains Littlejohn. “Officers returned fire at the suspect and then were able to get out of the residence.”

She said three officers were involved in the shooting and discharged their firearms at the suspect. Once officers vacated the residence, they established a perimeter and the department’s tactical team was activated.
