A Greenville, MS, police officer was killed during a shooting Tuesday night. The officer has been identified as Detective Myiesha Stewart, 30, of the Greenville Police Department.

Police say a man shot his girlfriend and another man and then left in a car,  which prompted officers and Washington County sheriff's deputies to chase him reports WTVA. The chase ended at the intersection of two highways in Greenville and shots were fired.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation says the suspect is being treated at a hospital and is in custody. Following the shootings, both the suspect and the man police allege he shot were airlifted to a Jackson hospital, reports WLBT.

The agency is also investigating the shooting by law enforcement, which is standard procedure.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Detective Myiesha Stewart. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends as well as the members of the Greenville Police Department,” says Sean Tindell, commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, in a statement.
