An officer with the Springfield (MO) Police Department is suing the man who is accused of deliberately crashing an SUV into him.

According to the Springfield News-Leader, Mark Priebe—a 21-year veteran of the Springfield Police Department— suffered life-altering injuries in an early June incident outside of police headquarters in which he was reportedly hit and then dragged underneath an SUV driven by Jon Tyler Routh.

Routh, 28, remains in the Greene County Jail on charges that could keep him behind bars for life.

Now Routh is also facing a personal injury lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday by Officer Priebe and his family.

In the lawsuit, the Priebes claim Routh either intentionally struck Officer Priebe or acted with negligence. They say he should be responsible for paying damages and he should also be punished to deter others from similar acts in the future.
