An officer with the Atlanta Police Department who was reportedly murdered by his wife was honored at a ceremony over the weekend.

According to Fox News, Atlanta Police Chief Erika Shields called the unexpected death of 58-year-old Stanley Lawrence a "gut punch to the entire department."

"They come in every day and they do what they are called to do and they do it without glory. Stan was one of those pillars," Chief Shields said. Riverdale police said Lawrence's wife shot him to death inside their home last week.
