One suspect is dead, another is injured, and an officer with the Plant City (FL) Police Department is hospitalized after being run over by a car occupied by the two individuals.

According to Fox News, two detectives in two separate unmarked cars approached the vehicle occupied by Aaron Phillips—who had several warrants including one for kidnapping—and April Thompson, when Phillips reportedly accelerated and rammed one of the patrol vehicles.

Phillips then allegedly turned and drove toward one of the detectives, who had exited his car, striking him and then running him over.

The detective—whose name has not been released—was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The suspects fled in their silver pickup truck but law enforcement officers encountered them some time later that day, police say.

A deputy attempting to take Phillips into custody got into a struggle with him, and someone yelled, "He's got a gun!" The detective then shot and killed the subject. Thompson was also struck, but was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police report.

The detective is in stable condition with fractures and internal injuries.
