An officer with the Greeley (CO) Police Department has been cleared of all wrongdoing and will not face charges following an incident in November during which the gunman fired more than 50 rounds at the officer before taking his own life.

According to the Denver Post, Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke determined the officer—who the DA's office declined to name—was justified in shooting Russell Cooley in order to defend himself and others during the incident.

Greeley Police Chief Mark Jones also released body camera video of the incident that shows the officer pinned down in his patrol vehicle and taking heavy fire. The officer attempted to return fire but was ultimately struck in the arm.

The gunman fled the scene and was later found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
