An officer with the Los Angeles Police Department who was struck in the arm by gunfire on Friday evening is expected to be OK.

According to ABC News, the incident took place when the officer was conducting a pedestrian stop in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.

The gunman was taken into custody and a handgun was recovered at the scene.
