The Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) has granted $84,000 in funding to the Port Angeles (WA) Police Department to help address homelessness in the town on the Canadian border, Chief of Police Brian Smith announced.

According to the Peninsula Daily News, the monies will be used by the REdisCOVERY program—a law enforcement partnership with the Olympic Peninsula Community Clinic and the local fire department—that helps the homeless and others find services and resources they might not know are available.

In the program, a social worker is embedded with officers to connect people to medical, dental, housing, and drug treatment resources.
