A 23-year-old Surrey, British Columbia, man is facing multiple charges after two Delta Police officers were injured – one suffering significant head injuries – during a violent incident at Watershed Park on Saturday.
Delta police were called to the park at 9 a.m. after receiving a report of a suspicious man in the area.
The first officer on the scene was confronted by a man who was hurling rocks at his cruiser.
The officer was punched in the face when he tried to handcuff the man, who then proceeded to beat the officer over the head with the handcuffs, the Province reports.
Delta police Supt. Harj Sidhu says the officer received 23 stitches and staples to close five separate lacerations to his face and head. Despite serious face and head wounds, the officer managed to hold the man in the vehicle until backup arrived.
