American Flag Design on California Patrol Vehicles Sparks Backlash

The Laguna Beach Police department recently repainted a number of squad cars to include an American flag theme across the front and rear doors. Some citizens are crying foul, saying that the new design is "aggressive" and not reflective of the community.

The Laguna Beach (CA) Police department recently repainted a number of squad cars to include an American flag theme across the front and rear doors. Some citizens are crying foul, saying that the new design is "aggressive" and not reflective of the community. They are asking the city council to reconsider the decision to repaint the department's fleet.

According to the Los Angeles Times, at least one city council member finds the backlash "ridiculous."

"People are screaming that the American flag on a police car is somehow or another ... hurting people’s feelings who might be immigrants or visitors," said Councilman Peter Blake. "People are actually ridiculous enough to bring up comments about our cop cars having American flags on them."

On Tuesday, the council will decide whether to continue with the logo or choose an alternative.
