A recruit with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office suffered a medical emergency after some exercise at the police academy located at the Florida State College at Jacksonville North Campus.

According to News 4, the recruit—identified as 43-year-old Tony Alexander Cephas—was taking a water break with his fellow recruits when an instructor observed that something was wrong. Cephas was transported to a nearby hospital where he subsequently died.

Cephas had military experience and had done well in his physical training since starting at the academy.

Director Ron Lendvay said, "Cephas is survived by his wife and two children. Our full support and prayers are with them at this most difficult time."
