The New York Police Department has fired the detective who sparked a 50-round fusillade leading to the death of a man outside a Queens strip club on his wedding day.

The NYPD has fired Det. Gescard Isnora and forced three other officers involved in the shooting of Sean Bell, 23, to retire.

Fellow detectives Marc Cooper and Michael Oliver, and Lt. Gary Napoli will resign, following an administrative trial that found they acted improperly. Isnora, Cooper, and Oliver were acquitted in 2008, after a criminal trial.

Officers told the New York Times that Isnora's termination would hurt morale, though some said the police commissioner, Raymond W. Kelly, had no choice but to cut ties to a detective whose name had been tainted.
