One Dead, One in Custody In Ambush Killing of Minnesota Sergeant

Bergeron was a 26-year veteran of the Maplewood (Minn.) Police Department, and was praised as a generous husband, father and officer who worked hard to protect his community without seeking the limelight.

Police have identified the two men who ambushed and killed Sgt. Joe Bergeron while he sat in his cruiser after responding to a carjacking call.

After the two suspects shot the officer, a jogger saw Bergeron fatally wounded and used the officer's radio to call for help. A manhunt then ensued, which led to the capture of Joshua Michael Martin.

The second suspect, Jason John Jones, was shot by an officer during a physical scuffle during which Jones struck that officer with a blunt instrument, fracturing his eye sockets and nose.
