New Haven city officials are now calculating how much overtime pay they'll have to provide police recruits, following a ruling by Connecticut's Department of Labor that the officers were not properly compensated, the New Haven Register reports.
The city violated a state law by paying recruits for a flat 40 hours per week regardless of how many hours they worked. The city will need to make it up with retroactive overtime pay.
A list of 104 eligible recruits has been generated. Some of the recruits completed the 28-week academy; others who dropped out would recieve less.
