New Haven Violated Wage Law With Recruit OT Pay

The city violated a state law by paying recruits for a flat 40 hours per week regardless of how many hours they worked. The city will need to make it up with retroactive overtime pay.

New Haven city officials are now calculating how much overtime pay they'll have to provide police recruits, following a ruling by Connecticut's Department of Labor that the officers were not properly compensated, the New Haven Register reports.

The city violated a state law by paying recruits for a flat 40 hours per week regardless of how many hours they worked. The city will need to make it up with retroactive overtime pay.

A list of 104 eligible recruits has been generated. Some of the recruits completed the 28-week academy; others who dropped out would recieve less.
