The Erie (Ohio) Bureau of Police has acquired a Lenco BearCat armored rescue vehicle for its SWAT officers, using a homeland security grant.
The BearCat stands about 12 feet tall, weighs about 17,000 pounds and can carry 10 officers.
The $201,000 vehicle was funded through a federal grant funneled through the Northwest Pennsylvania Emergency Response Group, a multiagency, regional group dedicated to improving public safety, reports Erica Erwin of the Erie Times News.
