At the Cops Care Cancer Foundation Christmas Fantasy Flight, patients and their families from Bay Area hospitals experience a "flight" to the North Pole. A visit from Santa Claus, his loyal elves, and a host of volunteers make the celebration unforgettable. There will be games, visits from special guests, and presents for every child. This year, the Fantasy Flight will be held at Moffett Field in Mountain View on December 10, 2005.
The Cops Care Cancer Foundation’s mission is to provide financial assistance to children and their families who have been stricken with cancer. The organization, begun by cancer survivor and San Jose PD Officer Brian Simuro in 2004, provides financial donations and support to the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Fellow San Jose officers Fabian Torrico, Mark Womack, and Steve Donohue serve as directors of the foundation.
Financial contributions help fund social service programs for children, long-term housing costs, prevention programs, research projects, and a survivor’s scholarship program. In addition to financial donations, the directors donate their time to visit with the children and provide motivational presentations.
While all children who are cancer patients may apply for assistance from the foundation, priority is given to relatives of law enforcement officers.
