NAACP: Increase Black Troopers In N.J.

George Gore, the political action chairman of the NAACP's New Jersey chapter, said the consent decree requires good-faith efforts to recruit blacks, and "they have not lived up to that."

Following a report from New Jersey's attorney general that the New Jersey State Police has been a model agency, an NAACP official criticized state police for not hiring enough black troopers.

George Gore, the political action chairman of the NAACP's New Jersey chapter, said the consent decree requires good-faith efforts to recruit blacks, and "they have not lived up to that."

The current recruit class has five black officers of the 123 total cadets.

The state police have been under federal oversight by the U.S. Supreme Court since 2009 to eliminate racial profiling. Attorney General Paula Dow called the agency a "model law enforcement agency" on Wednesday.
