Former Sanford (Fla.) Police Chief Bill Lee told CNN Wednesday he refused to arrest George Zimmerman to appease city officials, who fired him as retribution.
Lee told CNN there wasn't enough evidence to warrant an arrest in the killing of Trayvon Martin. He said he was fired when he refused to appease an angry public.
At the time, officials said they let Lee go because they lost trust in him. Sanford City Manager Norton Bonaparte fired Lee in June of 2012.
