Video: Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Recruit Collapses and Dies During Training
Authorities said that around 8:30 a.m., newly hired police candidates with CMPD were conducting state mandated physical fitness training when one candidate, Jeremy Moseley, collapsed.
A 29-year-old newly hired Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department candidate died during training Tuesday.
Authorities said that around 8:30 a.m., newly hired police candidates with CMPD were conducting state mandated physical fitness training when one candidate, Jeremy Moseley, collapsed.
CMPD training staff and Charlotte Fire Department personnel began to render aid and paramedics were immediately called.
Moseley was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center where he was pronounced dead, WSOC TV reports.
“The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s family suffered a deep loss this morning. Police candidate Jeremy Moseley was a man deeply committed and eager to serve as a guardian of our community. We are working closely with Jeremy’s family to coordinate a formal ceremony that will allow us to appropriately honor him and his commitment. Please continue to keep Jeremy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers as they grieve this tragic loss," Police Chief Kerr Putney said.
Jeremy Moseley was 29 years old and from Queens, New York. He attended the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the Capital University School of Law before pursuing his call to serve in law enforcement.
He moved to the Charlotte area in 2015 to begin a career with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. He was hired by the CMPD on June 27, 2016, and was a member of the 174th Recruit Class.
