Police Links: Shootings Mar Glad Tidings
December encompasses a large part of the holiday season, so it's sad when a tragedy like the Newtown, Conn., school shooting mars this time of year's glad tidings. That's why it's so nice to hear a sweet story about two Port Authority officers who helped safely deliver a baby in New York's Holland Tunnel.

9/11: Honoring the Responders
The nation will be honoring the 9/11 dead, both civilian and public safety, for the next month or so. That's the way it should be. We should honor the Americans who died that day. I also think it's important to honor the first responders who lived through 9/11, who helped the victims, who combed the rubble, who saved lives and recovered bodies.

9/11: In Memoriam
In all, 72 police responders from municipal, state, and federal agencies lost their lives during the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We would also like to pay tribute to all those who later succumbed to injuries sustained as a result of the terrorist attacks and working amid the rubble.

9/11: Port Authority Police Department
Thirty-seven. That's how many New York/New Jersey Port Authority Police officers came to work on Sept. 11, 2001, and never went home. More than 2 percent of the agency's complement of 1,400 was killed in the attack, and to add insult to extreme injury, its headquarters were on the 67th floor of 1 World Trade Center.
