Some 339 officers with the Milwaukee Police Department will be eligible to retire by the end of 2017. That means nearly 20% of the city's 1,889 sworn police officers could retire over the next 18 months.

Los Angeles Mayor Rejects Advisor's Plan To Halt Police Hiring
City Administrative Officer Miguel Santana made the recommendation in a city report to help close a $54-million budget gap. Santana suggested halting hiring until July 1, when a city measure goes into effect trimming the retirement benefits of newly hired officers.

St. Louis Saves 65 Officer Positions
St. Louis Metro Police Chief Dan Isom announced that 65 officer positions would be saved in next year's budget, and at the same time warned that officer positions may be cut the following year as grant funding dries up.
