San Jose Cuts 9% of Police Force
After months of talk of possible layoffs, the San Jose (Calif.) Police Department learned today the force would lose 9% of its sworn officers in a city cost-cutting move. The agency will send lay-off notices to 106 officers and an additional 20 cops may soon be demoted.

Third Largest N.J. City Lays Off 125 Officers
The Paterson (N.J.) Police Department has laid off a fourth of its force, resulting in protests by a crowd of officers from the agency. The officers took to city hall today to protest the 125 layoffs that were finalized Monday in the state's third largest city.

Camden, N.J., Hires Back 30% of Laid-Off Officers
Camden Mayor Dana Redd announced she would use $2.5 million paid to the city by the South Jersey Port Corp. and federal grants to hire back the officers, along with 15 firefighters.
