Texas Town Disbands Police Force
The east Texas town of Kemp eliminated its police department, becoming the latest small-town department in the nation to shift to the county sheriff for law enforcement services.

California City Disbands Police Department
A third city in San Mateo County, Calif., has elected to dissolve its police department and contract services to the sheriff's department. In the past year, the sheriff has contracted with San Carlos and Half Moon Bay after those cities dissolved their forces.

Texas Town Cuts Police Department
The City Council in Alto, Texas, has essentially eliminated its police department, reducing the police budget to zero and coordinating with the Cherokee County Sheriff's Officer to handle calls for the 1,200-resident town.

Calif. City Outsources Police Services to Sheriff
The Half Moon Bay City Council voted Saturday to shut down its police department and contract out its law enforcement services to the San Mateo Sheriff's Department. The move is expected to save the cash-strapped city $509,000.

California City Disbands Police Force
The City Council voted in late June to disband its 85-year-old agency to save nearly two-thirds of next year's $3.5-million budget shortfall. The department has 32 employees. The sheriff's office, which has 462 deputies, has agreed to offer full-time jobs to all San Carlos officers.
