Joining the Bomb Squad
From the Vault: POLICE Magazine featured the article, "Why I Joined the Bomb Squad," in its September 2008 issue and the topic is just as relevant today. Mexican drug cartels have used car bombs in Juarez, and San Diego deputies supervised the burning of a "bomb factory" house in December. California Agency Detonates Grenade In Station's Lawn
The grenade was removed from the vehicle and rendered safe by the deputies. Due to the condition of the device, it was disposed of at the scene and not transported for destruction. The bomb squad buried the device in the station's lawn, and then detonated it.

L.A. Sheriff Using API's Video Aiming Device for Bomb Disposal
The Hawki video aiming device is attached to a disrupter and utilizes a camera and rangefinder to automatically place cross hairs on the robot operator's monitor. While approaching a target, the cross hairs adjust the aim point based on the range to the target to show the operator the true point of impact for their shot.

The LAPD's bomb squad secured the area using a robot to cover the device with an explosive-resistant blanket. A man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
