Oregon Cop Critically Wounded at Traffic Stop
The 45-year-old officer was hit multiple times, after he pulled over a 1984 Dodge SUV for speeding along Highway 101. State troopers used spike strips to stop the vehicle about 40 miles south of Lincoln City and are searching for the suspect, who fled into the woods.

Oregon Chief Killed In Confrontation At Car Stereo Shop
Chief Painter, 55, had responded to the shop's call at about 11 a.m. that a man later identified as 21-year-old Daniel Armaugh had entered the bay and was acting suspiciously. Armaugh apparently wrestled the gun from Chief Painter and fatally shot the officer.

A month into his new job as Portland's police chief, Mike Reese said Tuesday he wants to transform training from a "fear-based model" -- where officers are taught to think a motorist reaching toward a floorboard is going for a gun -- to one founded on "competency and confidence" -- where a mentally ill man isn't treated like a bank robber.
