Oklahoma Deputy Nominated for HAIX Hero of the Month
Turner pulled on his firefighter gear due to the extreme heat and jumped over downed power lines to pull the man out of the immediate danger zone. The man suffered injuries to his legs and could not walk. Turner said he wasn’t thinking about the danger at the time.

Deputy Turner said he did touch a power line, but he was jumping and both feet were off the ground or he would have been shocked. He’d recently attended an educational seminar on the danger of downed lines but said he wasn’t really thinking about the danger at the time.

Troopers said the building appeared to be wired with explosives and at least one detonated. The building was consumed by the fire. Troopers used a flash bang during the encounter, but they said it did not start the fire.

Oklahoma Assistant Chief Dies from Crash Injuries
Durrett was injured in a single-vehicle crash on Feb. 11 near Beaver Mountain Road and State Highway 71. Police officials said he died Monday.
