A phalanx of rookie cops - one day out of the Police Academy - will be out in force on New Year's Eve as police keep watch on the festivities in Times Square. And keeping watch over them - and just about everyone else - will be Sky Watch, the retractable NYPD tower that allows police to spot problems from blocks away.

N.Y. Police Nab Cop-Impersonating, Home-Invading Grinches
Nicholas Papaleo and Constantino Christo, both of Brooklyn, were tooling around in Whitestone, dressed as cops and bent on robbing a drug deal on the night before Christmas, police said. When they saw Robert Kapovic outside his well-kept home, they figured he might offer just as much bounty and a lot less resistance.

Stores in Illinois Town Voluntarily Ban Halloween Selling of Eggs to Minors
Starting last year, two Evanston community groups, Brummel Park Neighbors and Network 2424, backed by Rainey and Chicago Ald. Joe Moore (49th), decided to try to crack the problem at the source by asking stores to stop selling eggs to youths around Halloween. Moore's office sent letters to grocers, and Rainey tracked down a renegade store that supplied eggs used in a smaller number of eggings last year.
