The smell of smoke led Dep. Mike Cruz to the La Presa neighborhood of East County where he found a garage on fire at about 4:30 a.m. Cruz then banged on the door and got the five sleeping family members out of the burning house.

SF Cops Revive Infant In Hotel Fountain
Several San Francisco Police officers revived a 1 1/2-year-old boy who had fallen into a fountain at the Hyatt Regency hotel's lobby fountain. The child was not breathing with officers found him in the water, and used CPR to revive him.

Shumpert, 59, stopped his patrol car and ran to the burning car. After breaking the driver's side window, he was able to pull the motorist to safety.

Troopers Vincent Noe and Mark Zych arrived on Interstate 93 in Quincy Saturday afternoon to help the father deliver the child. EMS arrived shortly afterward, and the family was transported to a nearby hospital.

California Deputy Resuscitates 17-Day-Old Infant
Two deputies, Rick Chaeff and Mike Laddy, were at a coffee shop on Monday when a woman entered and told them her granddaughter wasn't breathing. Chaeff was able to force air into the infant's lungs on the fourth try, and the infant started breathing.

Mass. Officer Saves Residents From Burning House
Officer Anthony Scichilone radioed dispatch to report the blaze, and then headed toward the Newton home. He pounded on the front door and evacuated all the residents inside the three apartments.
