Austin Ballot Initiative Could Force City to Hire Hundreds of Officers

Ken Casaday, president of the Austin Police Association, says the first APD patrol unit assigned was at 5:47 a.m., and police arrived at the scene at 5:51 a.m., 16 minutes after the call came through.

Officer Ronny Cortez and his partner were shot in the line of duty after confronting a burglary suspect in 2017. One bullet pierced his spine and left him paralyzed and in a wheelchair.

2 Texas Deputies Shot and Killed, Suspect in Custody
The incident reportedly began with a traffic stop. The driver fled and after a short foot pursuit the suspect stopped at his nearby home where shots were fired and the deputies apparently were fatally wounded.

Texas K-9 Dies During Search for Felony Suspects
K9 Kozmo was released to help track the suspects. Officers eventually located the suspects but could not find Kozmo. The police dog was found dead after an extensive search.

Parks Officer Kills Shooter at San Antonio Airport
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the officer stopped “the start of an active shooter situation” at San Antonio International Airport on Thursday afternoon when a suspect drove up to the arrivals area of Terminal B and began firing “indiscriminately.”

Officer Shot Multiple Times at Wednesday Traffic Stop Now Recovering at Home
Officer Joshua Lott was released from JPS Hospital in Fort Worth at 6 p.m. Thursday, about 38 hours after he was shot in the neck, just below the shoulder, and in the chest.

TX Officer Shot in Hand Returns Fire, Killing Two
The driver pulled a gun and started firing at the officer, striking him in the hand and his radio. The officer then returned gunfire as he retreated back to his vehicle. The driver and a passenger were killed in the exchange.
