Three vehicles, one of which was parked at a gas station, were involved in the accident that happened around 3 a.m. One of the vehicles was driven by Officer Corille Jones, who was on duty at the time responding to a call.

According to Tish Clark, a spokesperson for the DeSoto County Sheriff's Department, the officer was hit in the shoulder and is expected to recover. She described the shooting as an "ambush" and said it occurred around 6 a.m. Monday morning as the lieutenant was heading to work.
