In a Tuesday press conference, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings gave new details about the shooting that killed four law enforcement officers and injured four others Monday afternoon in North Carolina’s largest city.

Jenning released the names and agency affiliation of the fallen officers.

Three officers from the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force were killed attempting to serve an arrest warrant on the suspected shooter as a felon in possession of a firearm. The fallen task force officers are: Deputy Marshal Thomas Weeks of the U.S. Marshal’s Service, and Samuel Poloche and William Elliott both from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

A Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police sergeant serving on the Fugitive Task Force called for immediate backup, Jennings said.

Responding officers arrived on scene and CMPD Officer Joshua Eyer was mortally wounded and died at a local hospital Monday evening.

Jennings identified the four injured CMPD officers as Christopher Tolley, Michael Giglio, Jack Blowers and Justin Campbell. Just one of the officers remains hospitalized as of Tuesday, according to Jennings, and all are expected to make a full recovery. Three of the officers were shot, and another broke his foot, the Charlotte Observer reports.

Jennings added details to the narrative and walked back some of the information released Monday. He said the task force officers came under fire as they approached the front of the house. He indicated that the suspect saw the officers approach. Jennings said the gunman fired from the second floor of the house using an AR-15.

Although Jennings said Monday there were two shooters. He said Tuesday that officers now believe there was only one shooter. Jennings said officers were given the impression of two shooters because the gunman was positioned where he could fire from the front of the house and from the back of the house. The suspect was killed in the front yard of the home.

Jennings cautioned that details of the incident were subject to change as investigators review video from body cameras at the scene.

Wounded officers were evacuated from the scene by SWAT officers using an armored rescue vehicle.

Two females were removed from the house by police. They are cooperating with the investigation, Jennings said.
