Contra Costa County (Calif.) Sheriff's deputies deployed an armored vehicle to rescue a wounded East Bay Regional Park District police officer who had been attacked by several gunmen while patrolling the rugged lands near Moraga and Canyon.
The officer radioed for help at about 7 p.m. Monday, reporting he had taken automatic rifle fire from multiple assailants and was wounded.
Police believe the officer may have run across marijuana growers defending their cash crop.
