Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian was killed, and Senior Police Officer Tony Howard was wounded. Apparently, Hood shot Howard before he could exit the patrol car, and then ran. Christian pursued Hood, who then shot him through the window of the cruiser.

AG Holder: 2011 Duty Deaths 'Simply Unacceptable'

Duty deaths have spiked in 2011 with a 20% increase through March 22 compared to 2010. So far in 2011, 49 officers have died in the line of duty, according to preliminary data from NLEOMF. The spike in duty deaths began in 2010 after a two-year decline. There were 162 LODDs, 45 more than 2009.

Carjacking Suspect Kills Georgia Officer, Wounds Second

Senior Police Officer Elmer "Buddy" Christian, a married father of two, was fatally shot and SPO Tony Howard was wounded in an exchange of gunfire during a vehicle stop. Police took the driver of the vehicle into custody and are actively searching for 33-year-old Jamie Hood, who has been identified as the shooter.

Georgia Sheriff Saving $105,000 a Year with Propane Fuel

The department now has 36 patrol cars in its fleet that act as hybrid propane vehicles. For the conversion, a separate propane fuel system is added that allows the vehicles to switch between propane fuel and traditional gasoline.

Suspect Steals Georgia Trooper's Vehicle After Fatal Shooting

Trooper Chadwick LeCroy, 38, was shot twice in the face and died while being transported to the local trauma unit. LeCroy is survived by his wife and two sons, ages 8 and 21. He became a trooper in August 2008.
