Johannes Mehserle, the former BART police officer arrested on suspicion of murdering an unarmed passenger on an Oakland train platform early New Year's Day, waived extradition at a Nevada hearing and will be returned to Alameda County today.

BART Police Complete Slaying Probe, Forward Results to D.A.

BART police wrapped up their preliminary investigation Monday of the officer-involved shooting New Year's Day of an unarmed man in Oakland and have forwarded the case to the Alameda County district attorney's office, officials said.

San Francisco Police Respond to BART Protest

A raucous crowd protesting the shooting death of a BART passenger marched through downtown San Francisco tonight, overturning trash cans, tossing traffic barriers and lighting small garbage fires. San Francisco police in riot gear quickly moved in and closed off streets as the crowd broke up into smaller groups, scattering in all directions.

Oakland Protests over BART Shooting Turn Violent

A protest over the fatal shooting by a BART police officer of an unarmed man mushroomed into several hours of violence Wednesday night as demonstrators smashed storefronts and cars, set several cars ablaze and blocked streets in downtown Oakland.
