Virtual Candlelight Vigil for Fallen Officers to be Held on YouTube Thursday

This year’s virtual Candlelight Vigil will honor the 394 fallen officers whose names will be engraved onto the Memorial this year. Due to increased officer fatalities during the COVID-19 pandemic, NLEOMF said it has expanded the Memorial sooner than anticipated.

National Police Week Events Moved to October

A joint statement issued Wednesday by the National Fraternal Order of Police, the National FOP Auxiliary, Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), and NLEOMF said the postponement was due to "the inability to secure necessary permits in time for in-person gatherings due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions."

NJ Officer Named NLEOMF Officer of the Month

LT. David Grogan began calling out to the trapped residents when he heard a woman respond and then crawled onto the balcony and into the burning apartment to locate her. He found the woman and pulled her onto the balcony where firefighters were waiting. Lieutenant Grogan helped lower the woman onto a fire truck ladder where she was helped to safety.

Corporal Wagoner carefully made his way down an embankment to the overturned and burning vehicle. He managed to gain access to the rear passenger side window and noticed a man trapped between the front seats in the middle of the vehicle. He grabbed the man and pulled him from the vehicle.

Police Duty Deaths Dropped 18% in 2019, NLEOMF Reports

The Memorial Fund announced Monday in its 2019 Preliminary End-of-Year Law Enforcement Fatalities Report that 128 federal, state, local, tribal and territorial officers died in the line of duty over the past year, representing an 18% decrease over the 157 officers who died in the line of duty in 2018.
