The Ford Motor Co. produced a "stealth" version of its 2012 Police Interceptor for an automotive trade show. Ford has no current plants to produce the stealth concept vehicle, yet it released additional photos showing its spy-car features that include lighting that isn't noticible until its activated, a secret weapons compartment in the glove box and more sinister body styling lines. Ford Reveals First Plug-In Hybrid Police Vehicle

Ford revealed today the first plug-in hybrid vehicle designed for law enforcement and government service. The company says the new vehicle is capable of driving up to 21 miles on no fuel.

Ford's Police Interceptor Utility is currently a prototype, and the automaker is still refining the vehicle for a scheduled 2012 model-year release. Ford is releasing the special-service vehicle based on the Ford Explorer, which was relaunched for civilians in 2011. However, this pursuit-rated utility has been specially designed for law enforcement. It will be built in Chicago and is equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated to deliver at least 280 hp.

At a fleet event in Las Vegas, Ford revealed its new Police Interceptor sedan for law enforcement. Ford executives said it will exceed the durability, safety, performance and fuel economy of the Ford Crown Victoria, which enjoys a 70 percent share among LE agencies. A second product designed for police fleets takes data collected through the Data Services product and distills it into information that can help improve fleet efficiency and driver behavior. The application translates information from Ford vehicles to provide insights on fuel usage, carbon dioxide emissions, vehicle health and driver seatbelt usage.
